increasingly accessing online news stories via search engines rather than through
the site\'s homepage, according to new research.
A study by Hitwise found that the number of users directed from search engines
during March was 17 per cent higher than at the same time last year.
Google was found to account for 14.9 per cent of incoming links for print medium
websites and 10.2 per cent for broadcast category sites.
News aggregators such as MSN, Google News and Yahoo! News were also found to be
leading sources of traffic for news websites.
